Manfred Freinkel is a passionate man who wants to exceed customers’ expectations. Originally born in Johannesburg South Africa he immigrated to Australia in 1998 and became part of the rich tapestry of the local Kensington community.
With a solid background in the food and catering industry he purchased Grandma Moses in 2017, initially started by the Moses family in Rose Bay which relocated to a large fresh new facility in Kensington.
The kosher bakery is predominantly an artisan bakery that supplies supermarket chains with fresh bread on a daily basis. In addition to this they are the baking lifeblood to many aged-care homes, hospitals and a large cross-section of the food industry such as caterers. ‘We bake bread six days a week and we are very proud of what we make,’ said Manfred about his team.
The bakery is a multi-faceted operation with bread baking, pastry and café sections and also a catering division that can service orders, to provide food for up to 600 people. Even last minute orders can be accommodated ‘we do everything on site so it means that we are able to pull rabbits out of a hat,’ said Manfred.
As well as items baked to order, magnificent cakes can be created for any occasion be it a birthday, wedding or anniversary.
Baked fresh everyday there is a wide choice of artisan breads, bagels, cakes and pastries as well as great coffee on offer ‘whether it’s offering a bagel and a coffee for a good price or a muffin and coffee for the road,’ said Manfred ‘we have to make sure everyone leaves with a smile on their face.’
Either drop in and dine, or grab on the go there’s always a great variety of freshly baked goods available. Bagel options are available such as salmon and cream cheese or avocado with tomato.
So at the end of another great day of making customers smile what is Manfred’s favourite bakery item, ‘probably the Chiffon cake, a slice of that and a cup of tea and I’m a happy man.’
